ORIGO 1 Video: Addition Strategy

          The Curriculum Corner is excited to partner with ORIGO Education to share a series of short videos to help you with your math instruction.   Over the next several weeks you will get the opportunity to view six of their quick videos to help simplify and clarify your teaching.

          This is the first in a series of videos provided by ORIGO Education. Each one minute video is designed to help teachers discover a new strategy for teaching a math concept. These videos have been created for teachers, not students. The hope is that each one will give you knowledge that will help you with your instruction in the classroom.

          The ORIGO One series of videos shows you how to create light bulb moments for your students. These videos take a mathematics concept and break it into small pieces that are easy to understand and only take a minute to watch. We hope that you will find the videos we will be sharing useful to your classroom instruction!

          This first video focuses on sharing with teachers how to use the Make-10 Strategy for Addition. This is a wonderful strategy students can use to calculate numbers close to a ten, by using their knowledge of place value as a support to their thinking.

          Making this strategy even more useful in your classroom is the fact that it is also extendable to higher numbers. This Make-10 Strategy for Addition can even be used with decimals, to help make for easy mental calculation! This strategy might be referred to by some as the Bridge to Ten Strategy.
